Charity support.

At Avens, we are a family where anybody can nominate a charity for us to support.

Make a Difference Locally (MADL).
We are a proud member of the Nisa-run charity scheme MADL, supporting our chosen charities and community projects. Every time a customer buys an item included in the scheme (all Co-op own brand items and Heritage range), a proportion of the price goes straight into our charity pot.
We believe that local independently-run convenience stores are at the heart of communities, ideally placed to provide their customers with a personal and friendly service during their shopping trip. Our charity helps them further cement their position in the community – YOUR community - and reward it for the support it has given over the years.
Once we have enough money in our pot, we donate and support our chosen charities and community projects.

Andy’s Man Club.
We are actively raising awareness in our stores about men’s mental health. ANDYSMANCLUB run peer-to-peer support groups for men aged 18+ going through storms in their lives, every Monday at 7 pm excluding bank holidays. Clubs are free to attend with no registration required.

Maggies Cancer Research.
Maggies Cancer Research has a special place in our hearts. We have donation jars on all the tills in our stores that generously get filled up by our loyal customers. Our founder Maggie Keswick Jencks used her own experience of having cancer to create a new type of cancer care. The first Maggie’s opened in Edinburgh in 1996, and we now have a network of centres across the UK and some abroad.

Food bank.
We have donation jars on all our tills supporting our local food bank.
People can go hungry for many different reasons from redundancy to getting an unexpected bill when on a low income. Should you find yourself in this position, food banks can provide short-term access to emergency food and support for people experiencing a crisis.
Food banks are non-profit organisations that receive publicly donated food which is then sorted by volunteers and distributed as food parcels. The simple service of providing enough food for a few days can relieve stress, and prevent crime and family breakdown.
Several charitable organisations have set up food banks in Fife.
